Established Cerebrovascular Disease

P
Pathophysiologic Effects of Obesity Obesity increase risk of stroke by many factors including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, accelerated atherosclerosis, atrial fibrillation, and obstructive sleep apnea so the end result may be progressive atherosclerosis and orthromboembolism that may result in arterial occlusion or rupture.

T
To understand how obesity leads to arterial disease it’s necessary to examine the emerging science behind adipose biology and insulin resistance.

1- obesity causes insulin resistance, the blood sugar becomes elevated. Narrowed arteries and reduced blood flow to the heart can cause chest pain (angina) or a heart attack. Blood clots can also form in narrowed arteries and cause a stroke.

2- Obesity also increase inflammation caused by excess fatty tissue . This can lead to difficulty in blood flow and an increased risk of blockage, both of which can lead to stroke.
